SMSWizard 2 Version History
  • v1.0 12 March 2001
    First version.
  • v1.1 13 March 2001
Hmmm... Discovered a minor "bug" when setting the preferences; it was allowed to set the default device as SMS-Central and at the same time not enter a SMS-Central phone number in the "Phone number 1" field, fixed that. Also disabled the possibility to change send device to SMS-Central if the SMS-Central "Phone number 1" field is left empty.
  • v1.2 23 March 2001
Added the possibility to cancel a transfer.
Updated the manual, also changed its format from Word Doc to HTML.
  • v2.0 17 April 2001
    Added support for:
1/ Text messages containing "blinking characters", a "feature" which some Nokia phones supports.
2/ Sendning Ringing Tones in RTTTL/RTX-format, also added a "pre-listen" feature.
3/ Creating and sending OTA (Over-the-Air) Service Settings and Bookmark messages to WAP-phones (Nokia and Ericsson). Greatly simplifies the setup of a WAP-phone!
4/ Removing an operator logo from the phone.
  • v2.1 24 August 2001
    Added support for:
1/ Sending messages via "gateways" on the Internet, either via www.deltica.com or via www.crazysms.com. Sending messages only require an Internet connection (and an account), neither a cellularphone nor an "ordinary" computer modem are required.
2/ Creating and sending Business Cards, vCards
  • v2.2 17 September 2001
    Added support for:
1/ "Publishing" animated screen savers for Nokia 3330. Animated screen savers can only be downloaded via WAP, to make that possible SMSWizard2 will act like a "WAP-Server" that will publish the screen saver. To use this feature your phone must be "WAP-enabled" and your computer accessible from the Internet.
2/ Deferred delivey of text messages.
3/ "Big" operator logos (78x21 pixels), supported by Nokia (atleast) 7110/6210.
4/ Sending "blinking" messages via an SMS Central.

Fixed some minor bugs regarding how the program calculated number of SMS messages sent and characters left in messages.

Also added possibilty to change the cover of the phone used to display messages/pictures in the program.

  • v2.3 3 October 2001
"Killed" a couple of bugs ;-)
1/ The length of multiline text messages (messages containing carriage return(CR) and/or line feed(LF) characters) sent via crazySMS were calculated wrong, the CR and LF characters were counted as two characters each. That could, under certain circumstances, cause the message to be sent in two parts, and hence the cost would be doubled.
2/ When publishing animated screen savers for Nokia 3330, the "IP-address detector" could fail. The "IP-address detector" is used to inform about which IP-address the computer has, in order for the phone to "WAP-browse" to it.
3/ Improved the interrupt-possibilty when sending messages via an SMS-Central, now reacts quicker on cancel requests made while the program waits for answer from the SMS-Central.
  • v2.4.0 15 November 2001
1/ Added support for another Internet based SMS-gateway, PSWinCom. Sign up for an account! :-)
2/ Changed way of registration, instead of having to enter a name and an Email-address in order to download the program, a registration dialog will appear after first time or upgrade-installations.
3/ Added support for deferred delivery of text messages via crazySMS.
4/ Added a couple of accelerator keys to make easier to create new messages:
    Ctrl + T = new text message
    Ctrl + L = new op.logo
    Ctrl + B = new big op.logo
    Ctrl + P = new picture message
    Ctrl + I = new Callerline Identificaton
5/ Improved send log, now also shows send device used to send messages.
6/ Added Most-Recent-Filelist on the File menu to make it easier to access previous files.
7/ Added a built-in function to check for latest released version of SMSWizard2 via Internet.
8/ Changed character used to start/stop blinking text from § to ~, since I've learned that there is no § character on many keyboards ;-)
9/ Added support for checking the balance of a Deltica account.
10/ Added a progress bar when sending text messages via a distribution list.
11/ Added a feature which can be useful when sending text messages, called "name-tag", by entering a "name-tag" in a text message sent to a distibution list it is possible to make the message more personal. A "name-tag" looks like this *N#. When the message is sent the *N# tag will be replaced with the 3 first letters of the recipients name. For ex. the text "Hi *N#!" will be replaced by "Hi Jan!" if the recipients name is "Jan A". It is possible to enter more N's in the tag to have more letters of the name inserted in the message, *NN# = 4 letters, *NNN# = 5 and so on.

Thanks to Mark Handford for participating in the development of this release by giving very useful feed-back! :-)

  • v2.4.1 16 November 2001
Sigh! PSWinCom's primary port in the setup was wrong! It was set to 1111, should be 80... If you downloaded version 2.4.0 and plan to use PSWinCom's gateway you don't have to download this version, just change the primary port from 1111 to 80 :-)
  • v2.4.2 22 November 2001
Sigh again! I had accidentaly made it impossible to send Flash-SMS to distribution lists! :-) Flash-SMS should only be disabled if more than one SMS are sent to each recipient.
Thanks to Eddie Palmer for making me aware of that :-)
  • v2.4.3 27 November 2001
Sigh for the 3:rd time! ;-)

1/ I was sending myself a new ringing tone when I found that it sounded really strange! Notes above the default octave sounded all wrong. It was not only the pre-listen feature that failed, but also the ringing tone sent to the phone. What is strange is that no one has reported this fatal error?!?! ;-) It has been there since I introduced support for ringing tones, could it be that no one sends ringing tones? ;-)

2/ I also happened to see that sending any other type of message than text messages via an SMS-Central failed! It was an error I made when I implemented deferred delivery of text messages sent via an SMS-Central...

  • v3.0.0 27 February 2002
Long time no new release ;-) But as we say in Sweden, "someone who is waiting for something good never waits to long :-)

    1/
Supports creating and sending of EMS-pictures with an additional text. When sending to a distribution list that also contains Nokia phones, the picture will not be sent to them, only to the EMS-phones.

    2/
Supports Sending and pre-listening of EMS-ringing tones. When opening a ringing tone file, SMSWizard2 automatically converts between EMS format and Nokia format, and vice versa. Suggested filename extensions are .mel for MEL/EMS-files, and .rtl for RTTTL/Nokia-files, however, files with the extension .txt have automatically detection of either MEL or RTTTL-file contents. There is also support for sending ringing tones via distribution lists to both Nokia and EMS-phones at the same time. Note that an RTTTL-file that contains 1/32-notes will be converted to 1/16 notes if sent or pre-listened as an EMS ringing tone. SMSWizard2 also tries to convert RTTTL-files to MEL-files as "smart" as possible as it "fakes" longer notes by combining two or more shorter notes to one long. It is done that way because a MEL-file can only contain notes with 4 different lenghts.

    3/
To support EMS the phonebook has been extended with the possibility to set the phone type, either Nokia or EMS. If EMS is selected there also is a possibilty to select the format of the iMelody ringing tones(melodies) sent via SMS. The options are Full-, Partial- or No iMelody header and footer. For maximum compatibility "Full Header and Footer" is suggested, however that also means shorter ringing tones. The opposite goes for the "No header and Footer" option.

    4/
Full support for all message types has been added for the Internet based SMS-gateway, PSWinCom.

    5/
Added a modem debug log feature in order to log the modem communication for debug purposes. Also added a possibility to enter an extra init command to the modem and/or the cellular phone, which is sent to the modem/phone before sending the SMS.

    6/
Fixed an error that sometimes caused sending via an SMS-Central to fail. Thanks to "Daz" for reporting about it!

    7/
The maximum size of a picture is 120 pixels wide, and 50 pixels high. When opening a picture SMSWizard2 will use these rules to determine the type of the picture:

    Width
    Height
    Type
    72
    14
    Nokia picture
    72
    28
    Nokia picture message
    78
    21
    Nokia big operator logo
    16
    16
    EMS small picture
    32
    32
    EMS large picture

A EMS variable picture is a picture that has a width which is even dividable with 8, like 16,24,32 etc. The product of the width and the height must not exceed 1024.

    8/
The picture edit feature has been improved in a way that it will automatically zoom the edit window as much as possible with respect to the screen resolution.

    9/
Added a new operator in the Netherlands, "BEN". Thanks to Dirk Markink for informing me about it!

  • v3.0.1 4 March 2002
Fixed an error regarding ring tones sent via PSWinCom, which caused longer ring tones (RTTTL-files which had a size of 160 bytes or bigger) to be sent as two or more SMS messages even though not necessary.
Thanks to Richard Baker for reporting about it!
  • v3.1.0 27 August 2002
    1/
Added support for 'looping' in RTX files. Makes Nokia ringtones play a certain number of times. See http://www.logomanager.co.uk/help/Edit/RTX.html for an RTX file specification.

    2/
Fixed a bug in the ringtone sending to Nokia phones that sometimes caused the ringtones to be 'cut-off'. They played too short in other words :-) Thanks to Andreas Artmann for helping me finding it!

  • v3.2.0 10 October 2002
    1/
Shame on me!! I accidentally disabled sending via CrazySMS in version 3.1.0!!! Thanks to Eddie Palmer for telling me about it! :-)

    2/
Added a new feature, called "Speed Dial", to make it easier to send to a phone number that isn't in the phone book. Allows entering a phone number to send to without having to add it to the phone book. Ctrl+D is used to access it in the easiest way!

    3/
Fixed a bug that made it impossible to send 'plain' text messages to phones marked as EMS phones in the phone book.

    4/
The program now allows spaces in the name of a song in an RTX/RTTTL-file.

    5/
Improved the RTX/RTTTL to EMS conversion so that it is possible to use double or half speed when playing and sending the ringtone. To send using double or half speed simply pre-listen to either of them before sending.

    6/
Fixed a problem that caused the program to crasch when double-clicking on an .rtl file.

    7/
Added import and export possibilities of the phone book from/to a comma separated file. See the user's manual for detailed information
